The candidate for the presidency of the Republic of Korea from the largest opposition party Yoon Seok-youl, is ahead of his competitor from the ruling democratic party Lee Jae-myung by 5.3% in terms of popularity.

This is evidenced by the results of a survey published on Monday, conducted between February 2 and 4 by the sociological bureau Realmeter among 1.5 thousand adult residents of the country, TASS reports.

According to it, 43.4% of respondents expressed their support for Yoon Seok-yeol, which is 3.2% more than in the previous study. Lee Jae-myung's support level stood at 38.1%, down 0.4% from the previous week.

The work of the country's incumbent President Moon Jae-in is negatively assessed by 54.4% of survey participants, and positively by 42.2%. This is a very good result, since the rating of many previous leaders of the country in the last year of their presidency often fell below 10%, South Korean political analysts say.
