In the case of these authorities, one thing is always clear and predictable: Political order—clear execution of law enforcement. Opposition "Armenia" Faction MP Aram Vardevanyan, who is a lawyer by profession, wrote this on Facebook—and in connection with Monday’s court ruling on having Judge Boris Bakhshiyan remanded in custody.

"It was clear to the professional [law] community from the assigning of Judge Bakhshiyan's [criminal] case that [his] arrest is inevitable. It was inevitable, as these authorities do not tolerate an independent court, and with this they give a signal to everyone.

Armenia is moving from democracy to dictatorship, with the active support of international organizations. The [aforesaid] judge’s arrest was made with at least the silent support of the embassy of the European Union [in Armenia], with at least the silent support of international organizations.

It is obvious that this is an unprecedented challenge to the existence of law,” Vardevanyan added.
