Our eight captive compatriots have been returned to Armenia; the plane landed a while ago, governor Nazeli Baghdasaryan of Armenia’s Shirak Province wrote on Facebook Monday.

"Soon the boys will undergo a medical examination, and I will contact the family members as well. Welcome back and immediate repatriation to our other compatriots as well. Thank you to our agencies and international partners for providing active assistance in this regard," the governor of Shirak added.

As Armenian News-NEWS.am reported earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia on Monday announced the names of the captives who have been returned to Armenia from Azerbaijan.

The ministry said in a statement that as a result of the remote meeting on February 4, eight Armenian prisoners of war (POWs) returned to their homeland—and through the mediation of French President Emanuel Macron and European Council President Charles Michel.

These POWs are: Sargis Tarzyan, Vardges Balayan, Armen Petrosyan, Artur Babayan, Hmayak Sargsyan, Gurgen Galoyan, Grigor Kyureghyan, and Vagharshak Maloyan.
