The United States will help the United Arab Emirates resupply interceptors it is using to destroy incoming missiles following a series of unprecedented Yemeni Houthi attacks, Gen. Kenneth F. McKenzie Jr., head of US Central Command, told Reuters in an interview after a trip to Abu Dhabi earlier this week.
He provided no details yet. The UAE has privately asked the US for more missile defense interceptors, including for its THAAD and Patriot systems, a source familiar with the matter said on condition of anonymity.
The Pentagon announced last week the deployment of a guided missile destroyer and advanced US F-22 fighter jets to the UAE.
McKenzie Jr., who also expressed concern about Houthi attacks on allied Saudi Arabia, said that the United States was grappling with significant restrictions on US surveillance capabilities in Yemen.
