There is no such agenda for the incumbent authorities as membership in the Union State of Russia and Belarus. For them, there is probably also no agenda to strengthen Armenia, there is no agenda to advance the national interests of the Armenian people. The second President of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan, stated this during his press conference Thursday—and when asked about the advantages in case of Armenia joining the aforesaid Union State.
According to the former president, Armenia is facing serious challenges which it must overcome.
"We are facing serious challenges that shape today's agenda; and Armenia must find solutions. But those decisions are related to the [respective] avenues we have to choose. If you want to become a factor in this region, if you want to restore the previous position, then you must find solutions. One of the solutions may be joining the Union State. Yes, maybe. But today it is not so. The current Armenian authorities should become the initiators of that process," Kocharyan explained.
But for that, according to him, the Armenian authorities must present their respective vision and conditions. However, according to Robert Kocharyan, it is more convenient for these authorities to remain silent and not present any concept.
