The phrase "realpolitik" always works. The second President of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan, stated this during his press conference Thursday—and speaking about the double standards of the West.

To the remark that the world community is turning a blind eye to the situation in Armenia, calling what is happening in the country "democratic processes", and PM Nikol Pashinyan enjoys is support, and when asked if there is a real possibility of a change of power in Armenia, and how this can be done, Kocharyan responded: "With a mass protest. These authorities will not leave any other way. ”

"Even in the case of the support by the world community?" the reporter asked.

"What do you think? Were the authorities not making use of the support of the world community in 2018? There were excellent relations with the EU, the Council of Europe, the US, and the Russian Federation. We entered the EEU. The relations were not bad at all.

But everything, the attitude of the same world community, depends on protest demonstrations and rallies. If they see that it will really lead to a change of power, they will immediately start welcoming [it], talking about 'democracy, manifestation of will.'

But what is happening today, European institutions and the US have pushed the system of values into the background, in terms of double standards, pushing geopolitical calculations to the forefront. It is obvious to us. Maybe in this way, they are attempting to somehow distance Armenia from Russia. (…).

The Russia-West, West-China geopolitical tension is working against us. The issue of the dominant power in the world, the formation of a multipolar or unipolar world, very big interests conflict. And although we ended up in the ‘suburb,’ it affects us, too," said Robert Kocharyan.
