The US does not intend to impose sanctions against Russia until the last moment, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Sunday, TASS reported.

His remarks came while commenting on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's call to impose anti-Russian sanctions now.

"The purpose of the sanctions in the first instance is to try to deter Russia from going to war. As soon as you trigger them that deterrence is gone," Secretary of State Antony Blinken told CNN's "State of the Union" show.
