The situation in Kyiv today is very tense, but we are doing everything necessary for defense. Nikolai Zhirnov, the head of the military administration of the Ukrainian capital, said this on the air of UA: Razom, Ukrinform reports.

"This [i.e., Kyiv] is the number one object for defense. This is the heart of our country, the center of [Ukrainian] culture, the center of [Ukrainian] history, and the center of [Ukrainian] statehood. This is a sacred place for each and every Ukrainian. At the moment, the capital is firmly protected by units of the Ukrainian armed forces," Zhirnov said.

He added that the situation near Kyiv is overseen by the Ukrainian military.
