Ensuring the safety of Armenian citizens in Ukraine, as well as the matters of their repatriation should be dealt with by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs—and not by the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs. Hayk Mamijanyan, the secretary of the opposition "With Honor" Faction of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, said this at Monday’s press briefing in the NA.

The reporters asked how he assessed the work of the Armenian government in ensuring the safety of Armenians living in other countries, particularly in Ukraine.

First, Mamijanyan considered the decision to replace the Ministry of Diaspora with the institution of the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs as a unique manifestation of the incumbent Armenian authorities towards such a diaspora.

"This shows the weakening of the existing relations with the [Armenian] diaspora. (…) a special session of the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations shall be convened. During the meeting, the real results of the activities of the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs will be presented," the opposition MP said.

According to the latest data, as the lawmaker noted, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia has assumed the duties of the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs.

"Personally, I have not seen the participation of the Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs in that process," concluded Hayk Mamijanyan.
