British soldiers could be prosecuted for desertion if they go to Ukraine, said Minister of Defense Ben Wallace.

Wallace noted that the troops, who have reportedly already been in the war zone, will be court-martialed upon their return, AP reports.

He also warned other Britons not to travel to Ukraine, saying they would not be there for a selfie but for a real war.

Speaking in the House of Commons, Wallace said that any employee who goes to Ukraine will break the law, and upon his return will be held accountable for unauthorized absence or desertion.

Britain's stance on the involvement of some Britons in the fighting in Ukraine led to ministers being forced to retract comments from Foreign Secretary Liz Truss, who said she would absolutely support volunteers going to fight in Ukraine.
