Chinese PM Li Keqiang said he will step down as head of the Chinese government next year.

His remarks came at a press conference as part of the session of the National People's Congress (NPC) that ended its work in Beijing.

Li Keqiang has been premier since 2013, and the Chinese constitution limits the tenure of the head of government to two five-year terms.

Observers believe that at the next the composition of the governing bodies of the Chinese government will be seriously updated. Candidates for positions in government bodies will be determined at the 20th Congress of the CCP to be held in the second half of this year.

According to their estimates, Xi Jinping will retain the post of chairman of the PRC, since, in accordance with the changes made to the constitution, the term of office is not limited.
