In the meeting Friday with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Rostam Ghasemi, underlined bilateral cooperation between the two countries to expand transportation ties, IRNA reported.

Ghasemi is in Azerbaijan on top of a high-ranking delegation to attend the two countries’ 15th Joint Economic Committee meeting.

The Azerbaijani president, in the meeting, expressed his satisfaction with the development of bilateral ties between the two countries, adding that territorial openings in Azerbaijan have created a good opportunity for regional cooperation.

Aliyev said Azerbaijan considered the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Nakhchivan and the western regions of Azerbaijan through Iran as a sign of friendly relations, and they are confident that this new crossing will open new openings in economic, transportation, and generate energy.

Aliyev added that Baku is sure that this route will be an important international crossing for the region.

Emphasizing the activity of Iranian companies in the reconstruction of  Azerbaijan, the latter’s president said that Baku is pleased with the activity of Iranian companies in the reconstruction of the country.

Ghasemi had said on Wednesday before his departure for Baku that an MoU will be signed during his trip to Baku, and explained that this document allows the Azerbaijani people to use Iranian soil for traveling to Nakhichevan.
