The United States has warned China that if Beijing decides to assist Moscow in the face of Western economic sanctions, it will face consequences. This was stated by spokesperson Ned Price of the US Department of State, in Monday’s Department press briefing, VOA reported.

The statement came after US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan and US Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Daniel Kritenbrink met in Rome with Yang Jiechi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee.

“The National Security Advisor and our delegation raised directly and very clearly our concerns about the PRC’s support to Russia in the wake of the invasion, and the implications that any such support would have for the PRC’s relationship not only with us, but for its relationships around the world. That includes our allies and partners in Europe and in the Indo-Pacific,” Price said.

“(...) we are watching very closely the extent to which the PRC, or any other country for that matter, provides any form of support – whether that’s material support – whether that’s economic support, whether that’s financial support, to Russia. Any such support from anywhere in the world would be of great concern to us,” he added.

“We have communicated very clearly to Beijing that we won’t stand by if – we will not allow any country to compensate Russia for its losses,” Price stressed

The White House stated that Sullivan and Yang discussed the situation in Ukraine in detail during their meeting in Rome.
