Members of public organizations involved in the search for the missing found the remains of 26 people in the state of Sonora in northern Mexico. This was announced on Monday by the Televisa TV channel with reference to the prosecutor's office of the region.

The bodies were in secret burials in the yards of abandoned houses in the Ciudad Obregon area. Representatives of the authorities have begun to conduct laboratory tests necessary to identify the victims. According to preliminary data, we are talking about the victims of organized criminal communities operating in the region.

Ciudad Obregon was ranked second in the 2021 ranking of the 50 most dangerous cities in the world, compiled by the Mexican non-governmental organization Civic Council for Public Safety and Criminal Justice. The first place in the list went to the village of Zamora in the western state of Michoacán.

In 2021, 33,308 people became victims of violence in Mexico, 1,246 fewer than a year earlier, according to the Ministry of Public Safety and Citizen Protection. Half of all intentional homicides are committed in six states: Guanajuato, Mexico City, Michoacán, Baja California, Jalisco and Chihuahua.
