The White House has not changed its position on not consenting to the transfer of Polish MiG fighter jets to Ukraine. White House press secretary Jen Psaki noted about this at Wednesday’s press briefing, adding that such a move could escalate tensions between NATO and Russia.

Psaki recalled the assessment of the US Department of Defense, according to which the permission to transport these fighter jets to Ukraine can be considered by the Russians as an "escalation," which the US hopes to avoid.

The White House spokeswoman stressed, however, that the United States will continue to provide military assistance to Ukraine, although that assistance will focus on defense weapons.

Psaki also confirmed that, according to the US Department of Defense, the Ukrainian armed forces still have several squadrons of combat-ready fighter jets that are not used.

In addition, she noted that the White House does not see a difference between a no-fly zone and a "humanitarian" no-fly zone, saying that in both cases it can be interpreted by Russia as escalation.
