The US Department of Energy has authorized the export of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Cheniere Energy's two terminals - Sabine Pass in Louisiana and Corpus Christi in Texas, the agency's website says.

Cheniere Energy will be able to supply 2.038 million cubic meters per day to European countries. Earlier, gas was only allowed to be exported to countries with free trade agreements, such as Canada, Mexico, Australia and some countries in Asia, the Middle East, Central and South America.

U.S. LNG is an important part of global energy security, and the Department of Energy is looking to find ways to help allies and trading partners with fuel supplies, the release explains the decision to boost supplies.
