Christian Democratic Union (CDU) foreign policy expert Roderich Kiesewetter is skeptical about the negotiations between Ukraine and Russia on peace, which the delegations of both countries began shortly after the start of hostilities in Ukraine, Deutsche Welle reported.

“There is nothing to negotiate with Putin. Putin wants Ukraine to disintegrate,” Kiesewetter told the publications of the Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland group in an interview published on Sunday.

“The only way out that we have to achieve is for Russia to withdraw its troops from Ukraine,” Kizewetter said. “Negotiations will not lead to a solution to the problem. Neutrality (of Ukraine. – Ed.) or a similar outcome of negotiations is unlikely to mean long-term peace. There will be no more peace with Putin,” the German politician said.

According to Kiesewetter, the UN Security Council could provide Ukraine with security guarantees. However, to do this, the most influential UN body should formulate a clause that would deprive the permanent members of the Security Council - the USA, Russia, China, Great Britain and France - of the right to veto these guarantees in case of violation.

According to Kiesewetter, it is necessary that decisions in the UN Security Council can be taken by a majority vote. “Otherwise, countries with veto power, such as Russia, which carry out attacks themselves, may block any aid” he said.
