The issues related to the protection of the rights of the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh and the determination of its status are crucial for the Armenian authorities, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said.
His remarks came at the session of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Armenian National Assembly, responding to the question of deputy from Armenia opposition bloc Armen Rustamyan.
According to the Minister, the ruling Civil Contract Party has repeatedly voiced its approaches and thoughts in this regard. They can be summed up as the need to achieve a stable peace and long-term development of the region. "These theses were supported by a significant part of the voters, which made it possible to form a new government after the elections," Mirzoyan said.
He considered the most important component of peace to be resumption of the negotiation process on Karabakh conflict settlement. Mirzoyan also noted the importance of negotiations for signing a comprehensive peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
