Singapore intends to review its energy strategy and is exploring the possibility of using nuclear energy, the Energy Market Authority reported.
In particular, it is not ruled out that by 2050, nuclear energy will be able to cover up to 10% of national need.
Specialists who compiled a feasibility study commissioned by the government in 2012 came to the conclusion that the technologies available at that time did not allow the deployment of nuclear reactors in Singapore, the ministry said. However, as the report notes, technologies have improved significantly since then, with large countries developing nuclear power plants that are potentially safer than those already built. Such technologies, specified in management, are in Russia, China, the USA and France.
The Singapore authorities intend to reduce carbon dioxide emissions to zero by 2050.
