US President Joe Biden called the “collective defense” agreement of NATO a “sacred commitment," and said the unity of the Western military alliance was of the utmost importance, NBC reported.

“I’m confident that Vladimir Putin was counting on dividing NATO," Biden said in his remarks Saturday in Warsaw, Poland. "But he hasn’t been able to do it. We’ve all stayed together.”

Biden told reporters, when asked whether the Kremlin had changed its strategy, “I am not sure they have.”

The Kremlin wants to present NATO enlargement as an imperial project aimed at destabilizing Russia, whereas NATO is a defense alliance that has never sought to destroy Russia, he said.

The US president defended NATO consisting of 27 members. He noted that NATO was working through diplomatic channels for several months, trying to prevent the Russian invasion.

Joe Biden also assured Poland that the United States would protect it from any attack by Russia, acknowledging that NATO's ally bears the brunt of the post-war refugee crisis.

During his remarks in Warsaw, the US President spoke about the need for common sense.

“In this battle, we need to be clear-eyed,” Biden said. “This battle will not be won in days or months either.  We need to steel ourselves for the long fight ahead.”
He also rebuked Russian President Vladimir Putin for claiming that the Russian invasion was aimed at “de-Nazifying” Ukraine.

“Putin has the gall to say he’s ‘de-Nazifying’ Ukraine,”   the US president said. “It’s a lie.  It’s just cynical.  He knows that.  And it’s also obscene.”
