Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy did not approve Poland’s idea to bring peacekeepers to Ukraine because of the risk of freezing the conflict, not ending the war with Russia, UNIAN reported.

“I do not fully understand this proposal yet. We do not need a frozen conflict in our country; I explained this at our meeting with Polish colleagues. I know that they continued this rhetoric, Zelenskyy said. “Fortunately, unfortunately, this is still our country, and I am the President. So for now we will decide whether there will be certain forces here, “Zelenskyy said.

According to him, Ukraine is ready to discuss security guarantees and non-aligned status.

"Security guarantees and neutrality, non-nuclear status of our state. We are ready to go to this. This is the most important point. This was the first point of principle for the Russian Federation, as far as I understand. And as I recall, that is why they started the war," Zelenskyy said.

The Ukrainian president stressed that this should be a serious agreement.

"Therefore, this point is the point of security guarantees for Ukraine. And since they [i.e., Russia] say that these are guarantees for them as well, I understand that. And they discuss it. It is deeply worked out, but it is important for me that it will not be another piece of paper—like the Budapest memorandum. We are interested in turning that paper into a serious agreement," Zelenskyy said.

He added that Ukraine can decide on "neutral status" through a referendum, as the relevant amendments to the country’s constitution will take at least a year.
