Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó has accused Ukraine's leadership of trying to interfere in the upcoming election, AP reported.

In a video on social media, Szijjártó said that there is "constant coordination between the Hungarian left and representatives of the Ukrainian government," and that Ukraine is trying to influence the 3 April elections in Hungary in favor of a coalition of opposition parties.

The statements came after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made several recent comments in which he sharply criticized the Hungarian government's approach to the war.

Hungary opposes sanctions against Russian energy imports, arguing that this would severely damage its economy.

Szijjártó said that Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba contacted the Ukrainian ambassador in Budapest to discuss how to influence the Hungarian elections.

But in a conversation with the European Pravda newspaper, Kuleba denied the accusations. "Unlike Hungary's behavior, we have never interfered in Hungary's internal affairs, especially on the eve of elections," Kuleba said. "It is a pity to see how, for the sake of a momentary electoral advantage, Minister Szijjártó is willing to make up nonsense and destroy our relations with him, which we have been building for so long."
