Germany and France have rejected Russia's demand to pay in rubles for Russian gas supplies, calling it an unacceptable violation of contracts, Reuters reported.

Speaking at a news conference, German Economy Minister Robert Habeck said he had not yet seen the new decree signed by President Vladimir Putin obliging to pay for gas in rubles, adding that Germany was ready for all scenarios, including stopping Russian gas supplies to Europe.

French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire said that France and Germany rejected Russia's demand.

Russia's attempt to divide Western allies by demanding payment for gas in rubles has failed, Habeck said, adding that Western allies are determined not to be "blackmailed" by Russia.
