The weakening of the Russian ruble will lead to a reduction in remittances from Russia and will create problems for the export of goods from Armenia. Former MP, economist Mikayel Melkumyan said this during a discussion held Wednesday.

He expressed confidence that the current Russian-Ukrainian war will definitely have an impact on Armenia. Melkumyan added that the degree of this impact depends on the nature of the respective processes—whether they are short-, medium-, or long-term.

According to him, the first problem in the whole world, including Armenia, is inflation.

"According to various estimates, 50 to 100 thousand people working in the IT sector have arrived in Armenia from Russia. A question arises: Do we [i.e., Armenia] have the conditions to keep them [here]? How many of those people will return?" the economist said.

Also, he stated that the current Armenian authorities are unable to draw major investments into the country.

"Even domestic investors do not invest anywhere. Everyone is waiting for stabilization," Mikayel Melkumyan concluded.
