The UN General Assembly will vote on Russia's membership in the Human Rights Council. The US is seeking Russia's exclusion from the Council.
The Human Rights Council meets in Geneva. The UN General Assembly will need to vote with a two-thirds majority to exclude Russia from the HRC.
US Permanent Representative to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield told CNN she is confident the US has the support from other member states needed to remove Russia from the UN Human Rights Council.
“We believe that the members of the Russian forces committed war crimes in Ukraine, and we believe that Russia needs to be held accountable,” U.S. Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield said Monday. “Russia’s participation on the Human Rights Council is a farce.”
