Ruling force MP: Formation of climate of Armenia-Azerbaijan mutual trust was discussed at Brussels talks

Charles Michel expressed moderate optimism; in this connection we should note the following: In fact, the parties have expressed some readiness to move forward in that direction. Vladimir Vardanyan, a member of the ruling majority “Civil Contract” Faction of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia and chair of the NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs, told reporters this in parliament Thursday—and referring to the trilateral meeting held in Brussels Wednesday between Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of Armenia, President Charles Michel of the European Council, and President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan, and to the statements on its results.

Vardanyan said it is still early to talk about clarifications, but it seems that there is a common approach, a shared desire to move forward within the framework of negotiations.

To the remark that in the aforesaid statements there was no talk about the status of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) and the Artsakh issue, Vardanyan said: "In many of our observations, statements, in fact, the issues related to the rights of the people of Artsakh have been emphasized, it has been emphasized that this is an issue that should be settled based on the fact that we have a people and that people have certain rights and those rights should to be implemented. In this case, it was about the Armenia-Azerbaijan relations, the actual implementation of the previously reached agreements, the formation of a climate of mutual trust."

Vardanyan added that the talks have an important guarantee of success.

"One of those guarantees is flexibility and not creating a situation that can hinder the process. In this case, proposals have been submitted, counter-proposals have been submitted by Armenia, the [OSCE] Minsk Group is informed about all that," he said.

As for the fact that there is no word in the aforementioned statements that Azerbaijan is currently in the sovereign territory of Armenia and should leave it, the ruling force MP said. "In my opinion, in diplomacy you do not always try to find the answers in the text. Let's also try to take into account what is written between the lines. When they talk about the formation of a climate of mutual trust, the formation of a certain climate of security, this also implies taking certain measures which will enable to avoid any kind of incidents in the future."

According to Vladimir Vardanyan, the most dangerous thing now is to slow down some processes under the pretext of raising some circumstance.
