The Russian Embassy in Italy was attacked by a citizen of Ukraine, who splashed red paint on the door leading to its territory.

"On April 11 at 6:20 the Russian Embassy in Italy was attacked with a paint substance. Police arrived on the scene, the intruder has been detained. A note verbale was sent to the Italian Foreign Ministry in connection with the incident, demanding that the security measures of the mission be strengthened and that an objective investigation of the incident be carried out," the embassy said in a statement.

The press service of the Roman police department told RIA Novosti that the attacker was a Ukrainian citizen who permanently resides in Italy.

"He doused the metal gate with paint from a bucket. He did not put up any resistance when he was arrested,” said the interlocutor of the agency.
