Russia imposed retaliatory sanctions against lawmakers in the United States and Canada, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

The statement came in connection with the decision of the Canadian authorities, which announced on 24 March this year the inclusion of the entire Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia in the "black list" of persons subject to sanctions, including the ban on entry into the country, countermeasures against the current senators of the Canadian parliament are introduced on a reciprocal basis.

"These individuals are permanently placed on the Russian "stop list" as a reaction to the hostile steps taken by Ottawa, which, contrary to national interests, is trying to be at the forefront of the Russophobic course of the current US administration."

"Mirroring" sanctions restrictions on 398 members of the US House of Representatives. "These individuals, including the leadership and chairmen of committees of the lower house of the US Congress, are placed on the Russian "stop list" on a permanent basis."
