French authorities have seized the Chateau de la Croix mansion in a remote area of Cap d'Antibes on the Côte d'Azur, Greek City Times reports.

The mansion was built in 1920 by Greek billionaire Aristotle Onassis and was restored in 2001 using Abramovich's money after a fire in the 1970s. According to the newspaper, the Russian oligarch has invested in an abandoned building of more than 150 million euros.

The total area of the building is 26 thousand square meters, it is located on a plot of 5 hectares within walking distance of the coast. The publication notes that the French authorities are confiscating real estate and yachts as part of the sanctions imposed by the EU on wealthy Russians.

On 10 March, it was announced that the UK put Roman Abramovich on the sanctions list; the entrepreneur's assets in the country were frozen. After that, Abramovich sold the club.
