The European Parliament (EP) wants to recover €617,000 from French presidential candidate Marine Le Pen and her supporters accused of embezzling public funds. This was reported by Agence France-Presse (AFP), citing a source in the EP.

According to AFP, the Paris prosecutor's office received a report on March 11, according to which Le Pen and her supporters allegedly used for personal purposes money provided to political groups in the context of their mandate in the European Parliament. The corresponding investigation was carried out by the French portal Mediapart.

In addition, according to the report, the French presidential candidate embezzled about €137,000 from the treasury of the European Parliament during the period from 2004 to 2017. The OLAF investigation was opened in 2016 and Le Pen was interrogated in March 2021. Currently, the politician is accused of embezzlement of public funds, as well as complicity in this crime.
