Deputy Assistant Secretary General of NATO James Appathurai said that the North Atlantic Alliance needs to strengthen the cyber security of Georgia against the backdrop of a special operation in Ukraine.

“I am here to consider new proposals and initiatives with the Georgian government and parliament. I will have meetings at the Ministry of Defense of Georgia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” Appathurai said on Wednesday on the air of the Georgian TV channel Imedi. He added that Russia's special operation in Ukraine showed that "it is necessary to strengthen Georgia's cybersecurity capabilities."

Appathurai arrived in Tbilisi on Wednesday night. In addition to official meetings, he is scheduled to speak at a meeting of the Defense and Security Committee of the Georgian Parliament. The meeting with the deputies will be held in a closed format.
