YEREVAN. – During the 44-day Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) war in the fall of 2020, the military and political leadership of Azerbaijan and its servicemen committed numerous gross violations of international humanitarian law. Prosecutor General Artur Davtyan stated about this during Friday’s meeting of the Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs of the National Assembly of Armenia, presenting the report on the 2021 activities of the Prosecutor General's Office.
According to the prosecutor general, they have objective evidence which testifies to those violations. Thus, specific cases were exposed when Armenian settlements, civilians, cultural and religious monuments became the target of deliberate attacks.
"Civilians were killed, the rules of war were violated, prohibited weapons were used. Moreover, on the grounds of national hatred, the enemy actively used methods of violence and torture," Davtyan said.
He added that 60 representatives of the military and political leadership of Azerbaijan were prosecuted.
