Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced his decision to leave the political force at an extraordinary congress of the Amanat power party on Tuesday, Kazmedia Center reported.

"I said that I would resign as chairman of the party and leave the organization. The time has come to implement this decision. As of today, I have decided to step down as chairman of the Amanat Party and leave the party. This step has a symbolic meaning. In this regard, I would like to thank all of you for your trust and support in the presidential election. I also thank you for entrusting me with the leadership of the party," Tokayev said at Tuesday's congress.

Earlier, Tokayev proposed a ban on the membership of the head of state in political parties for the period of his presidency. Under his proposal, similar requirements would apply to the chairmen and members of the Central Election Commission, the Counting Committee and the Constitutional Council, regional heads and their deputies. According to Tokayev, in this way it will be possible to save "the future leaders of the country from the temptation to take over the main political institutions".
