Former Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan, Chairman of the Board of the Armenian National Interests Fund CJSC, will be nominated for the post of mayor in the next elections to the Yerevan Council of Elders. Incumbent Yerevan Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan announced this to reporter after Thursday’s Cabinet meeting of the Armenian government.

 Sargsyan added that he will hold the post of mayor for a year and a half.

"Then Tigran Avinyan will be nominated by the authorities for the post of mayor in the Yerevan Council of Elders elections. Personally, I am not against such rearrangements," Sargsyan assured.

The next election of the municipal council of the Armenian capital is slated for September 2023.
