Ismail Demir, head of Turkey's military procurement agency, said Turkey is still in talks with Russia to buy a second batch of its S-400 anti-missile systems, despite the war in Ukraine, the state TV channel TRT reported.

Demir said the 2017 contract allows Turkey to get two batteries of Russian missile defense systems.

"This is not about creating a second project," Demir said. "Turkey continues to fulfill the same decision it made from the beginning."

At the same time, Demir said Turkey will not receive a second batch of Russian S-400s anytime soon because of some issues related to the contract.

Washington imposed sanctions on the agency and Demir in the final weeks of U.S. President Donald Trump's administration for buying S-400.

Earlier, U.S. President Joe Biden's administration said the potential sale of F-16 fighter jets to Turkey would be in the U.S. national security interests and would also serve the long-term unity of NATO, Ahval notes.
