TBILISI. - Works on Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway will be completed in 2012, said Georgian Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Ramaz Nikolashvili.

In the framework of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars project the sides planed to lay a new railway branch of 105 kilometers on the territories of Turkey (76km) and Georgia (29km).

Moreover, 183-kilometer part of Akhalkalaki-Tbilisi-Marabda railroad is being reconstructed in order to increase capacity of 15 million tons of cargo annually. Turkish side embraced the expenses for the design works.

Note that the railway bypasses Armenia and is aimed at Armenia’s isolation.
