The border between Armenia and Turkey was unilaterally closed by Turkey in early 1990s, and there are no diplomatic relations between the two countries, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said in an interview with Indian media outlet WION.

"As you probably know, special representatives have now been appointed for the normalization process, and three meetings have already taken place, where the parties have decided to move forward without any preconditions in order to open the borders. In order to give a positive impetus to this process, I recently accepted the invitation of the Turkish Foreign Minister and went to Turkey to participate in the Antalya Diplomatic Forum and met with my counterpart in the forum.

We believe that political will and readiness to take concrete steps are necessary to achieve the normalization of relations. The Armenian side has repeatedly demonstrated both, and we expect the same from the Turkish side.

Despite all the risks and fragility, there is an opportunity to open an era of peaceful development in our region, and Armenia will continue its efforts to promote that opportunity," he said.
