Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's Liberal Party of Canada intends to ban handguns, such as pistols and revolvers, in the North American country. The head of government told journalists about this.

"We are capping the number of handguns in this country," Trudeau said. "It will be illegal to buy, sell, transfer or import handguns anywhere in Canada," the prime minister said.

Trudeau recalled that his government had previously banned the use, sale, purchase, import and transport of assault rifles and similar weapons by amending the national gun law. In total, 1.5 thousand varieties of assault weapons fell under the ban, including the popular American assault rifles AR-15 and M16.
