Tbilisi deputy mayor Ilya Eloshvili was found dead in his own house, the cause of death is being established.

Georgian Interior Ministry said the investigation is being carried out under Article 115 of the Criminal Code - incitement to suicide. A case under this article is always filed until the exact cause of death is clarified, Novosti-Georgia reported.

According to media reports, experts and dog handlers have been working at the scene for several hours.  The body has not yet been handed over for examination.

Eloshvili has been a member of the team of current Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze for more than 10 years. He has been deputy mayor of Tbilisi since 2021. Before that, he served as minister and deputy energy minister.

Ilya Eloshvili was 47 years old, he was married and had two children.
