A total of 77.18 percent of citizens have voted in favor of the amendments to the Constitution of Kazakhstan. This is evidenced by the data of the Central Referendum Commission, which were announced on Monday.

According to the commission, the turnout in the referendum was 68.06 percent.

A referendum on constitutional amendments was held in Kazakhstan on Sunday. Under these amendments, the powers of the head of state shall be reduced, the role of parliament and local representative bodies shall be considerably strengthened, the human rights sector shall be systemically strengthened, the Constitutional Court shall be re-established, the final abolition of the death penalty shall be recorded, and the provisions on the status of first head of state Nursultan Nazarbayev shall be removed.
