Washington claims that the purpose of the eight missile launches carried out by the US and South Korean militaries was to demonstrate readiness for a joint response to crises. US and South Korean forces conducted joint exercises with launches to demonstrate the ability to quickly respond to crisis situations, the document says.
During the exercise, one US Army missile and seven Republic of Korea missiles were used. Missile launches were carried out from the northeastern part of South Korea in the direction of the Sea of Japan after proper notifications were made for security purposes at sea and in the airspace, ”the representatives of the command specified.
The statement noted that Washington and Seoul remain committed to maintaining peace on the Korean Peninsula and throughout the Indo-Pacific region, and the US commitment to the defense of the ROK remains unwavering.
Earlier, the Yonhap news agency, citing the Committee of Chiefs of Staff of the Republic of Korea, reported that the United States and South Korea carried out test missile launches in response to North Korean tests. North Korea fired eight short-range ballistic missiles into the Sea of Japan on Sunday, according to the South Korean military.
