The leadership of the radical Taliban movement, which seized power in Afghanistan, condemned the statements of the representative of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Nipur Sharma in India, regarded in Muslim countries as insulting towards the Prophet Muhammad.
According to Deputy Minister of Culture and Information in the provisional Cabinet formed by the radicals, Zabihullah Mujahid, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan [IEA, the name of the state used by the Taliban] strongly condemns the insulting words expressed by the official of the Indian party against the Prophet Muhammad.
He also urged the government of India not to allow fanatics to offend the feelings of Muslims and their religion.
Sharma has appeared on Indian TV in televised debates and, in the context of discussing some incidents in the country, made a number of statements about Islam and the Prophet Muhammad that turned out to be offensive to Muslims. According to the Indian television channel NDTV, the leadership of the BJP suspended Sharma's membership in the party, excluding her from the main membership.
A number of Muslim countries and organizations condemned the statements of the BJP representative, Iran, Qatar and Kuwait handed protest notes to Indian ambassadors on this issue.
