The Summit of the Americas will adopt five documents following the meeting, including on migration, the coronavirus pandemic and other issues, said high-ranking representative of the US administration, speaking on Monday at a breifing dedicated to the Summit of the Americas opening in Los Angeles.
The summit is an opportunity to come together as a hemisphere and address key issues for the peoples of the region, including those related to achieving and maintaining economic prosperity, climate change, the migrant crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic, he said.
The United States and governments in the region have worked diligently over the past few months to reach a hemispheric consensus on political commitment in five key areas: democratic governance, health and sustainability, climate change and environmental sustainability, clean energy transition, and digital transformation. Five documents will be adopted, reflecting an ambitious consensus within the hemisphere on everything from civil society to strengthening digital ties, the official added.
He said that the US president will also announce over $300 million in aid to combat food insecurity in the region.
