The US Senate Foreign Relations Committee passed a resolution demanding that NATO admit Finland and Sweden as soon as possible, The Hill reported.

The committee approved a measure supporting the entry of the two Scandinavian states into the security alliance and called on other NATO members to do the same.

The Committee's adoption of this resolution is a testament to the bipartisan support for Finland and Sweden to join NATO, as well as the urgent need to strengthen the alliance in the face of Russia's unprovoked and brutal invasion of Ukraine, Commission member James Risch said after the vote.

The country bids received the full backing of the Biden administration and should now easily secure the necessary two-thirds Senate approval.
