There was an exchange of fire Tuesday morning between the border guards of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, RIA Novosti was told by the press center of the Kyrgyz border guard service.
According to the agency's interlocutor, early in the morning a shot was fired from the Kekh position of the Tajik border troops nearby Batken Region of Kyrgyzstan—and in the direction of the Kyrgyz Bash-Bulak position. In response, the Kyrgyz border guards also opened fire.
"At 8:10am [local time] the shooting stopped," the aforesaid press center noted, in particular.
The source added that representatives of Bishkek and Dushanbe have met to find out the reasons for this incident and prevent further aggravation of the situation.
As of 8:40am, the source described the situation on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border as tense.
To note, both Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are members in the CSTO—which includes Armenia.
