The IT sector in Armenia lacks 4,000 staff, which is currently impossible to fill. Yervant Zorian, fellow and chief architect at Synopsys and president of Synopsys Armenia IT companty, said this Wednesday at the Science & Business days 2022 conference.

He noted that for that reason the projects that could have been implemented in Armenia are going to other countries. Zorian added that there is a shortage of staff in technology companies around the world.

The president of Synopsys Armenia pointed to the importance of the work to increase respective staff.

"Specialists coming to Armenia today can partially fill the gap. But many come here with their companies, so there is still a lack. The development of technology requires diversity in everything. Our company employs a total of 18,000 people, more than 1,000 of them—in Yerevan. It is gratifying that today an influx of staff from abroad is observed. But work must be done not only in universities, but also in schools," he added.

According to him, the scientific product being created should not be only for Armenia, but also for the global market, and a big market orientation should be adopted.

"The axis of technology development is the development of microelectronics. IT companies, including in Armenia, cannot work without constant modernization. It is important to develop scientific thinking, managements, and universities should work closely on this matter to establish cooperation between business and technology companies," said Yervant Zorian.

Recalling that about 40 percent of Synopsys Armenia employees are women, he noted the need to increase their role in technology development.

"First of all, it is necessary to train staff in various fields," said the head of the company.
