Russia is considering the possibility of setting up an additional checkpoint for heavy trucks, and which will be located a few kilometers from the Upper Lars checkpoint on the Georgian border. This checkpoint may be put into operation in the near future. Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Gnel Sanosyan informed this during Wednesday’s National Assembly debates on the execution of the 2021 state budget of Armenia.

Also, the minister noted that the recent queues of vehicles on the road leading to the Georgian-Russian border have arisen due to the large flow of both passenger cars and trucks.

"Cargo that used to be transported through the Black Sea is now transported through Lars. All parties are making efforts to get out of the current situation," Sanosyan said.

According to him, the customs checkpoints are also working hard, serving the number of cars which is twice their capacity.
