Israel will present its new laser missile defense system to U.S. President Joe Biden during his visit in July.

According to Walla, Israel hopes to cooperate with Washington on the project, including American investment in further development and deployment of the system.

Such cooperation could be part of a broader effort to form a joint defense partnership with regional allies against the threat of Iranian drones and missiles.

Plans for such an alliance were first reported in March after an informal briefing with Israeli Air Force officials. Officials said Israel might soon enter into an alliance with its Middle Eastern partners, the Times of Israel wrote.

According to reports, the possibility of an airborne defense coalition emerged after agreements to normalize relations between Israel and Arab countries, including the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, which are geographically closer to Iran.

The ground-based laser system, dubbed the Iron Beam, is not intended to replace the Iron Dome or other Israeli air defense systems, but to complement them.
