Armenia official does not ‘recall’ that territories were ceded to Azerbaijan

The Armenian authorities deny that the some territories of Armenia have been ceded to Azerbaijan.

Suren Tovmasyan, Head of the Cadastre Committee of Armenia, told reporters Friday that he does not recall that in December 2020, some territories—i.e., Shurnukh and Vorotan villages—of Syunik Province were ceded to Azerbaijan.

"There was no such thing," the Armenian official said.

To note, this is about the changes that led to the loss of some sovereign territories of Armenia, including several sections of the Goris-Kapan interstate motorway and some settlements.

"There is a commission that works. Each body, including the Cadastre Committee, works within its powers. We have all the cadastral maps of the Republic of Armenia. As for the basis on which the work of the maps related to the border processes is carried out, that matter is not within the powers of the [Cadastre] Committee; it is in the legal field.

Any issue must be resolved legally. The maps, which will be determined to have legal bases, the Cadastre Committee will carry out works on the basis of those maps, with relevant instructions, within the framework of its powers," Suren Tovmasyan emphasized.
