During its 21 years of membership in the Council of Europe, Armenia has shown a high level of commitment to cooperation, and has become a party to 66 conventions and 12 treaties. Secretary General of the Council of Europe (CoE), Marija Pejcinovic Buric, stated this Friday after her meeting with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, in Yerevan.
According to her, Armenia has actively participated in the formation of the legal and political agenda, and the CoE has contributed to the progress of reforms in the country.
The CoE head expressed hope that her current visit to Armenia will further strengthen dialogue and cooperation, in particular, in the light of the current and future action plans.
She welcomed the readiness of the Armenian authorities to implement the 2019-22 Action Plan, and noted that the preparation of the 2023-26 Action Plan is nearing completion.
The secretary general of the CoE called on the Armenian authorities to continue to make use of the European track-record and assistance in electoral reform, the law on media, in line with the Venice Commission's recommendations, to finalize the constitutional reform, and to implement the recommendations of PACE and monitoring bodies.
The partners in Strasbourg and the Yerevan office are ready to continue their support for the reform efforts, the Secretary General of the Council of Europe concluded.
